The Meltdown is a family favorite in my house! Absolutely the best food, service, and atmosphere. I highly recommend! A few of our favorite dishes are French Onion Soup (with extra cheese), Italian Grilled Cheese, Poutine, Buffalo Chicken Tenders, of course the weekly specials, and let’s not forget the famous cheesecakes! Run don’t walk!!
We just got in our car and drove 3 hours to Barre. We decided to try the Meltdown and was worth the drive. Our waitress Bella was a sweetheart. Food was very good. She even recommended the LegenDairy for the maple ice-cream.
The Meltdown Restaurant is by far one of the best restaurants in Barre, VT. Consistently amazing food, great service and amazing owners! It doesn’t get any better! Every time I have been here it’s perfect. The owner, Diane goes out of her way to make sure you are happy and your food is to your liking and if it isn’t, she makes it right, however I have never had that experience!!! Large diverse menu of different grilled cheese sandwiches with sides to boot, good drink menu and great desserts. If you want a unique, yummy place to get an amazing grilled cheese sandwiches, look no further. Reservations are recommended but not required. You will be back!!

The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. One standout recommendation: try dipping the grilled cheese in maple syrup—trust me, it’s a game changer! Prices were absolutely fair for the quality and portions. Eating at the Meltdown was easily one of the best experiences I've ever had going out to eat. They did everything right. The food was outstanding, great flavor and presentation, and I left stuffed! On top of the amazing food, the staff went so far above and beyond, it restored my faith in humanity. I could feel their passion and dedication in every interaction. We had multiple allergies at the table and they went so far out of their way to accommodate, I almost can't believe it. As soon as you walk in you feel like part of their family. I couldn't recommend the Meltdown enough to anyone and everyone. Absolutely will go again, 10/10.
One of the best grilled cheeses I’ve ever had. The team there were so friendly especially Diane, we had a lovely chat with her, and she was so welcoming. Definitely worth driving out of your way to get these awesome grilled cheeses!
Was just driving through Barre and needed to find a spot for lunch and I'm SO happy I stumbled upon The Meltdown. I popped in solo and sat at the bar - the staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly. The menu has so many delicious and creative grilled cheese options - heaven! I got the spinach and artichoke grilled cheese - do not miss. The bar has a great selection of local brews. Diane, the owner, even let me try a cider that wasn't on the menu yet. 10/10 recommend!
What a great find! I stopped in at The Meltdown and had the Classic Grilled Cheese with French fries, coleslaw, and a cup of their creamy tomato soup—and everything was absolutely delicious. You can really tell the food is made fresh to order; the grilled cheese was perfectly crispy and melty, and the soup was rich and flavorful—comfort food done right! The staff and manager were fantastic—super friendly and welcoming, and the service was quick without feeling rushed. The restaurant was spotless, including the outdoor patio where we sat. It’s always a good sign when a place feels genuinely cared for. I’ll definitely be going back. Highly recommend if you’re in the area and craving a cozy, satisfying meal!
